Admission to the PhD Program in Economics
Applications are now open for admission to the PhD Program in Economics – Round XLII at the University of Bergamo.
The PhD in Economics is a four-year program. For Round XLII, the call provides 4 positions, all covered by University-funded scholarships, and no positions without scholarship. The program coordinator is Prof. Francesco Cinnirella.
Prospective applicants must submit their application exclusively through the official online procedure. Applications submitted after the deadline, incomplete applications, or applications submitted through channels other than the official online platform are not admissible.

Admission requirements
Applicants may apply if they hold, or will obtain by the required deadline, a degree giving access to doctoral studies, including an Italian Master’s degree or an equivalent foreign qualification. Candidates who need an entry visa for study purposes must obtain the required qualification by 31 August 2026; other candidates may obtain it by 31 October 2026. Foreign qualifications are assessed by the Selection Committee.
Selection Procedure
The selection procedure consists of two stages:
- Evaluation of qualifications and submitted documents — up to 60 points
- Interview — up to 30 points
Candidates who obtain at least 42/60 in the first stage are admitted to the interview. The interview is passed with a minimum score of 21/30.
For admitted candidates, the interview is scheduled for 13 July 2026, 10:00 a.m. Italian time, with possible continuation on 14 July 2026, depending on the number of candidates. The interview will be held online, by videoconference, and in English.
Required Documents
Applicants must upload the required documents in PDF format through the online procedure. These include:
- identity document;
- curriculum vitae, using the template provided on the official call page;
- research project, using the template provided on the official call page;
- two reference letters from university professors;
- for candidates with foreign qualifications: degree diplomas, transcripts, and any further documentation useful for assessing eligibility.
Documents issued in a language other than Italian or English must be accompanied by an official translation into Italian or English, where required.
Application fee
Participation in the selection procedure requires a non-refundable application fee of €20.00, to be paid through PagoPA as part of the online application process.
Results and enrolment
Selection results will be published on the University website by 24 July 2026. Publication of the results constitutes official notification to candidates.
Admitted candidates with a scholarship must confirm their enrolment by paying the required fees between 29 July 2026, 9:00 a.m., and 4 August 2026, 11:59 p.m., under penalty of forfeiture. Further instructions will be sent to the email address used during the application procedure.
