The official call for applications for admission to the 2026/27 academic year will be published in May/June 2026. However, prospective candidates are encouraged to express their interest in advance by submitting an Expression of Interest. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a formal application for the admission procedure in accordance with the official call by the University of Bergamo, to be issued in late spring 2026.
Interested candidates should fill in the form following the link at the end of this page by Friday, March 20th, 2026. The following documents in PDF format should be provided via shareable links (e.g., Google Drive/OneDrive/Dropbox), ensuring access is set to “anyone with the link can view”.
Curriculum Vitae (CV): An updated resume detailing academic background, research experience, and relevant skills.
Research Statement (1-3 pages): The statement should include:
A well-defined research question
A summary of the existing literature
The methodology the candidate intends to apply
Relevant Certifications (if available): GRE, TOEFL, or other academic qualifications
The PhD in Economics is a four-year program offered by the Department of Economics of the University of Bergamo. It aims to develop high-quality researchers with strong analytical skills and international exposure. The program prepares students for careers in academia, government agencies, research institutions, central banks, financial institutions, and private enterprises. More info can be found here.
Submitting an Expression of Interest is not a formal application. Candidates will still need to submit a formal application when the official call opens.
Promising candidates who submit an Expression of Interest will receive notifications from the PhD coordinator once the official application call is published.
The formal application, including all required documents, must be submitted by the official deadline in order to be considered by the admission committee.
Candidates expecting to obtain their Master’s degree by October may also submit their Expression of Interest.
